I recall enjoying The Princess and the Goblin and The Princess and Curdie when I read them aloud to some of my kids years ago. I really want to read Sir Gibbie. My therapist said it was a favorite childhood book of hers, and knowing my taste in literature, has recommended it to me.

Excellent essay!

Please let me know your thoughts when you read it! I’d recommend looking for the David Jack version that includes the translations of the Doric Scottish dialect. Happy reading ☺️

Thanks, I'll try if I remember.

Beautiful! I’m glad I still have MacDonald’s novels to read for the first time. I just got a copy of “Robert Falconer” that I’m excited to read in 2025!

That one is on my list for 2025 as well! Maybe we should start a book club…

Let's do it! I got the side-by-side edition by David Jack off of Amazon. Happy to start whenever works for you!

I love this - "it might be the only novel that I’ve ever read that made me feel like I was worshipping as I was reading."
